A Vision Should Pull You, Not Sacrifice You

Oct 21, 2026

Here is a question I wish more high performers would ask: Does the vision you are chasing make you stronger, or is it sacrificing you?

We often treat exhaustion as evidence that the dream is serious. We glorify the pace, the pressure, and the willingness to postpone everything else. The reward is always just over the next hill. Once we reach it, we will be present again. Healthy again. Available again.

But a future that requires you to abandon yourself on the way there may not be your future at all.

A powerful vision should challenge you. It should stretch your identity, ask for courage, and require choices. But it should also give energy back. It should create a sense of meaning large enough to hold the effort.

That is the difference between being pushed by pressure and pulled by purpose.

When people write their 10-Year Letter, they often discover that the future they truly want is more textured than the goals they have been chasing. Yes, there may be business growth, financial freedom, or meaningful impact. But there is also a peaceful kitchen. A stronger body. Unhurried mornings. Laughter with people they love. Work that matters and enough life left to enjoy it.

Those details are not small. They are the reason the achievement matters.

Take a goal you are pursuing and place it inside the full scene of your life ten years from now. Who is beside you? How do your days feel? What did you refuse to lose while building it? What did success make possible beyond the number itself?

You are allowed to want a future that is both ambitious and alive. In fact, you may find that you move toward it with more conviction because you are no longer fighting yourself to get there.

Does the future you are chasing make you stronger, or is it asking you to sacrifice what matters?

The Future Doesn't Wait.
Why Should You?

The 10-Year Letter gives you a proven process to get clear about what matters most and intentionally author the future you want to live.
